Court orders to exhume the body of Katunayaka garment worker who died of food poisoning

The Negombo Additional Magistrate Thilakaratna Banda ordered to exhume the body of a garment worker who died after consuming food that was provided by her apparel company at Katunayake Export Processing Zone.

Accordingly, the order was transferred to the respective Magistrate in charge of the Angunakolapalessa police division where her body was buried.

150 workers were hospitalized as they fell sick after consuming food provided by their apparel company on the 4th of September last year.

One of the victims of Uswewa Elakanda in Tangalle and 48-year old mother of two died on September 7th, 2014 while she was receiving treatment in hospital.

Later her relatives complained to Katunayake police that the victim’s death was suspicious as her postmortem stated that the cause of her death was not food poisoning.
