Final decision regarding the resettlement in Wilpattuwa to be given in two weeks

Ministry of Environment stated that they will take a final decision regarding the resettlement taking place in Wilpattu National Park.

The Secretary of the Ministry Nihal Rupasinghe told our news team that they have already prepared a report regarding the matter, after conducting an inspection tour in the area.

Hiru CIA continuously revealed the facts regarding the resettlement which took place in the Wilpattu eco-sensitive zone which destroyed part of Wilpattu Northern sanctuary and Kallaru forest.

Following this revelation, Minister Rishard Badiudeen – who was accused regarding the resettlement in Wilpattu sanctuary - conducted an inspection tour in the area yesterday.

Responding to the media at Marachchikaddi Mosque during a media briefing, the minister stated that the area in which the Muslims have been resettled is not subjected to a gazette notification or demarcated.

He further stated that, if people have resettled after an elephant pass has been demarcated in the area, the respective government officials should provide them with options for resettlement.
