The Deputy Minister of Posts Sanath Jayasuriya said that though he supported the protest as the Deputy Minister of the area, he didn’t support to assault the students.
Answering a question he said that he doesn’t want to assault any one.

Explaining the reason for going there ” it was decided to have Deyata Kirula in our village. People were longing for that. The protest was against taking it to another place. As a resident of this village, I too participated in the protest. We didn’t assault any body. We protested to have it here. ”
