An elephant ran amok at the annual Randoli procession of the Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya injuring at least 20 persons on Saturday night near Anderson Road, Nedimala.
Three persons were still being treated at the Colombo South teaching Hospital, Kalubowila, the police said last night.
The elephant also caused extensive damage to a shop, a house and three vehicles in the area.
The elephant first attacked his mahout and them entered the compound of a house and attacked vehicles.
Finally, veterinarians were rushed from the National Zoological Gardens, Dehiwela the elephant was tranquillised.
Veterinarians also had to take a great deal of pain to revive the elephant yesterday morning as it failed to recover on its own.
