Sri Lanka Cricket had incurred a loss of Rs 1,111 million in 2013, Chief Government Whip and Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena informed Parliament yesterday.
Minister Gunwardena, on behalf of the Minister of Sports, responding to a question raised by UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake, said that the Sri Lanka Cricket had earned a profit of Rs. 368 million in 2014. The Sri Lanka Cricket targeted net surpluses of Rs. 116 million and Rs 165 million in the years 2015 and 2016 respectively, Parliament was told.Sri Lanka Cricket had a total of 222 staff members who were in direct employment. It spent about Rs 28.5 million per month on salaries of the staff including ETF and EPF contributions. The average amount the board spent on an employee was Rs. 120,000, Gunawardena said.
Asked to provide breakdown for the total amount of Rs. 28.5 million, the minister said that the board had spent Rs. 17.6 million for basic salaries, Rs. 4.1 million for maintenance of vehicles, fuel and travelling allowances, Rs. 1.8 million for EPF and Rs 0.4 million for ETF contributions.
Asked to reveal the total of short term debt along with the bank overdrafts, medium and long term debt in respect of Sri Lanka Cricket as at May 31, this year, the minister said that there were two current liabilities namely a term loan of Rs. 402,180,702 drawn from the International Cricket Council and another term loan of Rs. 291,876, 039 obtained from the Bank of Ceylon. The board would pay Rs. 527,760,154 to the Bank of Ceylon, the minister added.
