In the year 2010 Sarath Fonseka was made the common candidate early as UNP knew well that he would lose was said in the Derana 360 political programme by member of parliament for UNP Wijedasa Rajapaksa.he had added further that after the victory in the war in 2010 presidential election there was no candidate who would have won at that time.That is why SarathFonseka was given to contest.However the election campaign was done to the maximum.The UNP had no confidence that he would win.
