‘Pigeon’, ‘peacock’ symbols at Mahinda’s disposal

Elections commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya (18) informed Sri Lanka Labour Party leader A.S.P. Liyanage, whom he met to ask for a change in his party symbol, that the ‘pigeon’ and ‘peacock’ symbols are at his disposal, according to reports reaching us.

Deshapriya however said a change of symbol is possible only in the first week after the declaration of an election.

The polls chief told Liyanage to inform him about an appropriate symbol for his party by that time.

There is speculation that Mahinda Rajapaksa is contesting the next parliamentary election.

However, Rajapaksa is yet to confirm that.
