Discussion on 20th Amendment today - President

Government sources say that the date of presenting in parliament the 20th amendment containing proposals for changing the electoral system will be decided at the discussion due to be held with the President at the chair today.

Political party leaders have been invited for this discussion scheduled to be held at the presidential secretariat.

However the sources said that the 20th amendment would very likely be presented to the cabinet on the 13th of this month.

Meanwhile a discussion about the election system amendment was held between small party representatives and the President last afternoon.

Representatives of JVP, TNA, SLMC, All Island People’s Congress, Workers’ National Front, and Western People’s Front participated in the discussion.

Democratic People’s Front Leader Mano Ganeshan who participated in the discussion said that the President had given a pledge with regard to holding the next election according to the current election system.
