Wimal Weerawanse to the CID today

NFF leader and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa has been informed to report at the CID today to make a statement.

NFF media spokesman Mohamed Musammil said that accordingly the MP would report at the CID this forenoon.

Responding to our query the NFF media spokesman said further that disclosure could not be made about why the CID has summoned the former minister.

Meanwhile former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa too has been summoned to the Financial Crimes Division today.

It was on 12th this month that the former Defence Secretary had been informed call at the Police Financial Crimes Division for giving a statement in view of investigations into a complaint lodged saying that irregularities had taken place in the purchase of ‘Mig’ jets for Sri Lanka Air Force.

However while the former Defence Secretary had not provided the statement on that day, he had requested for another day to make the statement.

However the Supreme Court issued an interim restraining order recently preventing the arrest of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This interim restraining order will be in force till the hearing of the petition ends.

The Supreme Court gave this restraining order granting permission for the hearing of an FR petition filed by the former Defence Secretary.
