Minister of Justice and Buddhist Affairs Wijedasa Rajapaksa stated that when establishing new commissions, priority will be given to Police, Bribery and State Services Commissions.

The 19th amendment was approved in Parliament on the 28th of April with 211 votes paving the way for the establishment of Independent Commissions which had been requested by society for a long time.

Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa stated that the commissions will be appointed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission Prathibha Mahanamahewa stated that certain guidelines need to be followed when appointing Independent Commissions.
