It has been revealed that the broadcast licences obtained for radio and television channels have been handed over to other parties without the approval of Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media and the government is to take legal actions to terminate licenses of such media institutions.

It has been decided not to issue further licenses to those who are convicted.

Investigations have revealed that the individuals, who are residing abroad, have obtained the broadcast licenses as third party and they use those radio and television channels to build certain political images.

Commenting on the matter a senior official attached to Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media stated that there had been several occasions where the license of media institutions were terminated as they were convicted of certain offenses.

Under 14 media institutions Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media has currently issued broadcast licenses for 22 television channels and 53 radio channels.
