Watched by hundreds if not thousands of commuters, the officer in uniform is seen assaulting the fallen woman with what looked like a belt.
Senior Superintendent of Police in Charge of the Ratnapura Division Palitha Fernando, asked for comment, said he, too, had seen the video clip but had not been able to identify the policeman concerned or the station he was attached to.
Even the place of the assault had not been clearly established, but they were conducting investigations to get to the bottom of it. And if the officer concerned had violated the law stern action would be taken against him, the SSP said.
