Jaffna Magistrate S. Ponnathurai Shivakumaran remanded 47 suspects until the 1st of June while another 43 were remanded until 3rd of June.
The rest of the suspects were remanded until the 4th of June.
Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said the suspects were remanded on the charges of unlawful assembly, damaging public property and launching an assault on policemen on duty.
Police have already arrested 9 suspects in connection with the rape and murder of the Punkuduthivu school girl.
5 of them have been remanded until 1st of June while another 3 suspects were remanded for the day after they were produced before the Kayts Magistrate.
Meanwhile, a hartal was observed in Vavuniya town in protest of the rape and murder of Punkuduthivu school girl.
Our correspondent stated that shops were closed in support of the hartal staged by several organizations including Vavuniya United Merchants Association.
He also said that the daily routine of the town has been disrupted due to the hartal campaign.
However, the CID is further investigating the crime.
Meanwhile, IGP N.K. Ilangakoon visited Jaffna last night after the commotion, and observed the ongoing investigation regarding the crime.
Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the situation in Jaffna town has returned to normalcy by now.
