Initially she had been summoned by the FCID to record a statement on May 28, however Mrs Weerawansa had notified that she would be unable to make it on that day.
Therefore she was instructed to arrive at the FCID for questioning today. Shashi Weerawansa was reportedly accompanied by her husband, Wimal Weerawansa.
Mrs Weerawansa was recently released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court after being arrested and remanded on charges of falsifying documents to obtain a diplomatic passport.
On Tuesday (2), police had grilled former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa over alleged corruption in an NGO which she ran during her husband Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency.
She was questioned by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) at a location outside the headquarters for over two hours, sources said.
She was summoned for an inquiry over alleged corruption in connection with a bank account of the ‘Carlton Siriliya Saviya’ Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.
An investigation is currently being carried out into the bank account of the ‘Siriliya Saviya.’ The former First Lady is the patron of the foundation.
