Commissioner of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya who arrived at the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka today confirmed that no whatsoever official census or any government funded activity will not be held in both Badulla and Monaragala districts as claimed by some political parties and media.

Election Commissioner and state officials attached to the Ministry of Economic Development were present the HRCSL on a complaint by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). They had alleged that certain state officials have deployed government employees for election propaganda for the upcoming Uva Provincial Council elections.

JVP’ s lawyer and Western Provincial Council member Sunil Watagala speaking to the media just after the meeting at the HRCSL said that they were assured by the Commissioner of Elections that such kind of act will not be taken place on September 5,6,7 and 8.

Earlier, the Samurdhi and Divi Neguma officials claimed that they have been asked to be in Uva for an special economic concuss on Sep 5-8. Sumith Balagalla, JVP candidate for the election and the participant for the above meeting told The Nation that all Samurdhi and Divi Neguma officials who had been asked be in Badulla and Monaragala now can wait at home, as the Economic Development Ministry had plesdged the Commissioner of Elections that no such census would be held as claimed by some.
