
A consensus has been reached from 2010 for not deploying children below 12 years of age for labour.
Similarly deploying children between the ages of 12 and 18 in dangerous industries is illegal.
Issuing a message in view of the International Day for condemning child labour Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that it was a serious offence to deploy children in any violent undertaking that is of a level that they cannot bear.
