UNP objects increasing parliament seats above 230

The UNP states that the number of parliament seats should not be increased beyond 230.

However, SLFP says that the number of parliament seats should be increased upto 255 under the 20th Amendment.

UNP Senior Deputy Chairman Minister Joseph Michael Perera stated that the party stand is that number of parliament seats should be below 230 under the 20th Amendment.

When contacted, SLFP Media Spokesman, Dilan Perera said that the UNP adopts a double standard policy as the party does not prefer the 20th Amendment.

Meanwhile, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the number of parliament seats should be increased to a certain level in order to accommodate fair representation of the people’s mandate.

At the same time, deputy minister Shantha Bandara explained the SLFP proposal to increase the number of parliament seats to 255.
