Gotabaya rejects allegations in UN report

Gotabaya Rajapaksa says that as the Defence Secretary who served during the time of the war, he completely rejected the allegations made in the recently-published UNHRC report on Sri Lanka.

“The LTTE diaspora wants to punish the head of state, Defence Secretary, commanders of the armed forces and the military officers who gave leadership during the war. This is what they are trying to do.”

“I don’t think the country’s government will allow that,” he told reported in Colombo.

The former Defence Secretary stated that certain mistakes made cannot be describes as what took place during the war in general.

“If a wrongdoing has been committed by a certain individual or a soldier then that person should be found and punished. You cannot say the entire army or military system is wrong,” he said.
