The Hybrid court recommended by the UN report will be appointed by the Sri Lankan government and the procedure will take place without any interference from the United Nations, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera says.

Judges with an international reputation would be appointed to the court, he added.

The minister was responding to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' over queries raised with regard to JVP leader stating that the government must not allow the establishment of a hybrid court in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to the 'Divaina' newspaper, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said that the establishment of such a hybrid court violated the country's constitution as well as the agreements between the government and the UN.

Because of Rajapaksas :
The Foreign minister says that the UN has proposed a hybrid court due to the Rajapaksa regime influencing the judiciary and turning it to their advantage.

If the report was released when the Rajapaksa regime was in power, it would have dangerous repercussions, he added.

Because of the political change that took place in the country on Jan. 08 and due the international community's faith placed on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, a better image of Sri Lanka is portrayed, he further said.

JVP calls for Truth commission
Meanwhile, the JVP called for the  establishment of a 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission' through an Act of development and reconstruction of national unity to enable those who were affected by the war to present their grievances, to find out the truth regarding such complaints and to give relief to the distressed.
