Nothing wrong in my participation - Daham

Daham Sirisena, son of president Maithripala Sirisena, says in a posting in his facebook that he finds nothing wrong in his participation in a UN assembly session along with his father.

Daham says he has been officially invited to be part of the presidential delegation, as his mother, the first lady, was not participating.

Also, he says he has been invited to take part in a youth conference on sustainable development.

Daham asks all to refrain from comparing him and his family with the the former regime, saying that his family was totally different from them.

The true meaning of nepotism is the abuse of power and make influences to be advantageous to siblings, relatives and friends, he goes onto say.

However, social media has strongly criticized the participation of the president’s son in the tour.

During the election period, comparing the conduct of ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sirisena has stressed the need for eliminating nepotism, social media points out.
