Will stop sending house maids overseas

Minister of Foreign Employment - Thalatha Athukorala says that measures will be taken to stop women form going overseas as housemaids.

Speaking at a function in Rathnapura, the minister said that such measures will be implemented in the next five years.

The media coordinator of the ministry said that the salary of the women working in the Middle East area was not adequate and this step was taken as a measure to prevent such women from facing harassment.

The ministry hopes to initiate a stream of employment with appropriate salaries.

Also, these individuals will be directed towards non-housemaid jobs in European countries, he further said.
