Former State Minister and Parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake filed a petition at the Supreme Court yesterday requesting to recount and publicize the votes mustered by the United National Party (UNP) candidates, who contested the August general election from the Colombo District.

The Court took into consideration this Fundamental Rights petition and ordered the defendants of the case to appear before Court on 30 November. Notices to Elections Commissioner and Attorney General were accepted by Deputy Solicitor General Therian Pulle. All the UNP contestants of the Colombo District have been named as defendants and Returning Officers were also named defendants.

The petition also states that Senanayake was told by some election officials that election laws have been violated and votes, which have been counted, were manipulated. She has further added that the number of votes have been manipulated in such a manner that some candidates have received more votes while she had received a less number. President's Counsel Faiz Mustapha, Pulasthi Rupasinghe and Meheran Karkam are representing the plaintiff.
