Former Foreign Minister G L Peiris stated that there is no difference in former regime and new government in terms of nepotism and corruption.

Former minister further noted that there was no “police state” in the country during Rajapaksha regime.

The remarks were made at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday.

G.L. Peiris accused the police of attempting to suppress investigations into many incidents, claiming that public has to fire tyres, raise black flags and stage hartal asking for their basic human rights in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, journalists questioned Dinesh Gunawardena at the press conference drawing attention to initiatives to form a new party under Mahinda Rajapaksha’s patronage.

Gunawardena affirmed that Rajapaksha is in the Joint Opposition which is the genuine anti-UNP camp in the house.
