
Jones was born to Burgher family and grew up on St. Sebestian’s Street in Hulftsdorp. He entered music under the guidance of Wally Bastian in the early 1950s.
For the duration of his musical career, Jones also worked as an English stenographer for a state bank. He retired in 1997 completing 35 years of service. He was a major figure in Sinhala baila and had several hits that include “Mini Gawuma” and “Uyala Pihala.” Jones had released 37cassettes and eight CDs.
