Mahanayakas protest against the opening of the road in front of Temple of the Tooth Relic edit post

Mahanayakas of Malwathu and Asgiriya Chapters have shown their displeasure over the opening of the road in front of the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy.

Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Galagoda Sri Aththadassi said the opening would be disrespectful to Sri Dalada Samidun.

The road that falls in the A 26 Kandy- Mahiyangana route was closed during the war period.

However, several parties requested the road to be reopened claiming that the move would ease traffic congestion and reduce air pollution. A clash erupted within two groups last Friday as a result.

The Asgiriya Chapter’s council committee is due to meet today to find an alternate solution for the issue.
