The decision on exhumation of Embilipitiya youth’s body due today

A decision will be made today if to exhume the body of Sumith Prasanna who died during a police clash in Embilipitiya early this year.

Senior State Counsel Sudarshana Perera appearing for the Attorney General requested the Embilipitiya Magistrate to issue the order.

The Counsel said the reports issued by the Ratnapura Forensic Officer and evidences given during the case hearing was contradictory.

Accordingly, Embilipitiya Additional Magistrate Prasanna Fernando who considered the submissions said that the decision about this would be given today.

In a new turn of event the CID informed courts that there was a new witness to the case but he had was mute. The Additional Magistrate ordered the principal of the Ratmalana School for the Deaf and Blind assist with recording a statement from the witness.

The former ASP of Embilipitiya D. C. Dharmarathna was further remanded till today.
