A special investigation into Dematagoda shooting

An investigation was launched under the leadership of Prisons Department Assistant Superintendent into the Dematagoda shooting, yesterday.

A bus carrying prison inmates from Hultsdorf Court to Welikanda Prison was aimed at a shooting near Samantha Cinema Hall in Dematagoda.

Dematagoda Chaminda sustained injuries to the chest and waist during the shoot carried out by an unidentified gang. The suspects drove by in a car and on a motorbike.

Chaminda was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment. Prisons Commissioner General Nishaantha Dhanasinghe said that a discussion would be held with Police for obtaining additional security for prison buses in the future. However, the shooters are still at large.
