State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardane said that President Maithripala Sirisena as the Defence Minister is continuously offering guidance and instruction to ensure and to further strengthen national security.
He was addressing a ceremony held to distribute Virusara privilege cards among the Virusara beneficiaries of the western province at Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry in Panagoda on Friday (8).
He also mentioned that, government will not allow any person or any organization to impact or influence on the national security, the Defence Ministry’s media unit reported. Further speaking the State Minister highlighted that, tri forces are there to protect the country and to ensure the national security, but not to fulfill any political agendas. During the event, State Minister Wijewardane highly appreciated the work effort done by each and every person on making this project a success.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi and State Secretary to Ministry of Defence Mr. APG Kithsiri were also present at the occasion. During today’s ceremony a total of 1724 beneficiaries including 1362 beneficiaries from Army, 283 from Navy, 45 from Air Force, 24 from Police and 10 from Civil Security Department received Virusara cards.
