Three gangs vie for underworld leadership

Police investigations have revealed that three gangs are vying to secure the underworld leadership, the 'Mawbima' newspaper reports.

It is said that special police teams have been deployed to nab around 40 persons linked to these gangs, reports add.

According to investigations, one gang is led by a one Dhanushka Lakmina, the second is led by Dematagoda Chaminda and the third by Samayang and Army Sampath, the newspaper adds.

Details on this regard have come to light after several underground members were arrested recently and interrogated.

DIG Pujith Jayasundara, who is currently tasked with nabbing underworld operations, have also directed police units to arrest individuals who are providing luxury vehicles and protection for underground thugs.

In a report to DIG Jayasundara last week, operation units of police divisions have informed him that 36 underworld leaders have been arrested.
