The JVP states that there is a move to discuss regarding the CEPA agreement during the Prime Ministers tour to India.

Propaganda Secretary of the JVP, MP Vijitha Herath made this comment addressing a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday.

Meanwhile, the NFF is preparing to demand an adjourning debate in parliament over the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Sri Lanka and India.

NFF leader and MP Wimal Weerawansa stated this while participating in distributing leaflets in front of Fort Railway station.

However, Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama said yesterday that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will not be finalising or discussing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with India during his visit to New Delhi tomorrow.

In a statement, he rejected claims made by certain politicians that Prime Minister Wickremesinghe and his Indian counterpart would finalise the agreement and that it would adversely affect the country.

The minister said before signing such an important agreement, there were many aspects that needed to be carefully scrutinised.

He said, through such baseless claims and empty rhetoric on the CEPA and the Indian visit, some bankrupt politicians were attempting to misinform the people.

He also stated that certain businessmen gave money to these politicians to achieve narrow personnel gains and to mislead the general public.

Sri Lanka and India have been working on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement or CEPA since 2003.

The two countries expect to reach an agreement in goods and services trade between the two countries, right to employment despite territorial differences, investment, aviation and customs services.
