The inquest following the exhumation of his remains has revealed this.
It is suspected the thighbones had gone missing during the first inquest.
Investigators believe the thighbones had been removed to conceal how he had been killed, noting that Thajudeen might have either been attacked with a sharp weapon or shot at on his thighs.
Killer in north camp
The person who had masterminded the murder is a captain in the Army and was one of the bodyguards of Shiranthi Rajapaksa during the previous regime.
He is presently attached to an Army camp in the north.
Police headquarters sources say a top defence official is exerting pressure on the CID officials investigating the murder.
