Weerawansa had gone to the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake around 3.00pm but a computer check by immigration officials has discovered an issue in the Parliamentarian's passport.
When explained, the MP had responded in a heated mood, reports add.
The flaw was discovered after immigration officials looked into the matter fully and is as follows.
MP Weerawansa has applied for a new passport recently after claiming that his old passport was lost. However, he had produced the 'lost' passport before the immigration counter early this morning.
Officials had explained that the passport he had produced was cancelled after the MP had informed to authorities that it was lost.
In the end, the MP had accepted the turn of events.
However, the NFF leader had not even attended the All Party Conference held last evening as he was preparing for this Italy trip.
